Caustic oscillations, ethereal scrapings and diamond ceilings of additive drum loops hit with suggestions of My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3 and Warp's Zenith. A lone man stands with a loop pedal and synth where, if you close your eyes, a space arkestra exists.
Plan B, April 2008 - live review
Ebbs And Flows, the brainchild of one Rob Calder, was written in Oxford whilst he was caring for the mentally ill. Whether Rob has been hanging out with those charges who turned their minds to marmalade through the use of drugs we don't know, but the first track on this CD is trippy in a similar way to stripped down Spiritualized, shack or The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows" It's elegantly realised with minimal guitars and multi-layered soothing vocals that never impose themselves on the overall atmosphere of the thing. Comedown anyone? I can think of worse ways.
